ISFED Statement on Threats against Salome Zourabichvili
ISFED responds to the statement made today by the presidential candidate of Georgia, Salome Zourabichvili claiming that on November 9-10 and 11, she and her children received death threats through voice and text messages.

According to the candidate, the threats are real because, as she stated, persons that made these threats have been identified as former military servicemen, who because of their status have ties with the United National Movement.

The death threats reported by Zuorabichvili amount to criminal offence. We urge the Ministry of Internal Affairs to take timely and effective actions and investigate the alleged threats as soon as possible.

ISFED has expressed its concern over polarized election environment and increasing aggressive rhetoric before. We urge the electoral subjects involved in the election and their supporters once more to refrain from any actions and statements that may create violent setting for the election.
