The Parliament of Georgia is planning to adopt with first hearing a draft law of on Amendments to the Criminal Code of Georgia, prepared by the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia and initiated by the Government of Georgia. One of the aims of the draft law is to criminalize public calls for violent action. According to Article of the 2391 of the draft law, public calls for violent action for the purpose of instigating conflict between different racial, religious, national, regional, ethnic, social, political, language and/or other groups will be punishable by up to two years in prison.

The European Network of Election Monitoring Organizations (ENEMO) once again calls Azerbaijan Government for immediate release of Anar Mammadli of Election Monitoring and Democracy Studies Centre (EMDS).  EMDS chairman Anar Mammadli was imprisoned by the Court of Serious Crimes for 5.5 years respectively following the Azerbaijan presidential elections of October, 2013 when critical reports were published on the electoral process by Anar Mammadli and his colleagues.

Members of the campaign This Affects You have presented an appeal to the Constitutional Court of Georgia, requesting abolishment of the amendments to secret surveillance legislation adopted by the Georgian Parliament in November 2014.

With this statement we react to comments made by the Prime Minister today, expressing hope that the Supreme Court Chair will take interest in the case of Rustavi Metallurgical Plant whose property has been seized for the debt of 4500 GEL owed by the plant. The Prime Minister also stated that the judge who presided over the case should publicly explain the decision.

The Coalition for an Independent and Transparent Judiciary welcomes timely completion of the process of election of a new Chief Justice.  Despite certain delays, the Parliament has still managed to complete the process according to the existing procedures and elected a new Chief Justice by 88 votes on March 20, 2018.  It also needs to be noted that for the first time in history, Georgia will have a female Chief Justice.  This is a step forward in increasing the role of women in deciding the issues of high importance.

On March 13-15 theatres and halls owned by Poti, Zugdidi, Senaki and Khobi municipalities held screenings of a documentary film - The Bloody Chronicle of the Saakashvili Regime. Screenings were organized by Gia Salukvadze. Saluvkvadze was released from prison as the Georgian Dream Government considered him a political prisoner.

ISFED reacts to the statement of a non-governmental organization CIDA about the processes of competitions and certification in local self-government agencies, published on March 9, 2015. It became known that due to problems of transparency and fairness identified in the process, CIDA’s Executive Director Zviad Devdariani decided to leave the committee for competitions and certification.
